New York
Happy Halloween!
October 27th, 2009 by Angela
I'm fairly certain you will have heard the saying that New York City never sleeps, right? I certainly had but I certainly had not realised how incredibly true it was. This city is madness.

Last week was the CMJ music conference which basically meant a bazillion bands descended on Noo Yoik for a week with shows every night (and most afternoons) at every venue everywhere. It was amazing, honestly, you've never in your life seen so many pale, skinny boys wandering down the street under cover of darkness with guitars strapped to their backs stopping only to ask 'uh, is this like, Ludlow Street?'.
It was amazing.

Less amazing was the flu I've had for the last week. No-one gets a cold here, it's flu or nothing. I did manage to make it to see one of my favourite bands (besides Stills!) and if you liked Pains of Being Pure at Heart, I'm sure you'll love them - The Depreciation Guild are just awesome. Dreamy music that rocks my socks and leaving NYC for the UK very soon so try and catch thme if you can!

Anyway, back to the topic of the post... it is Halloween. Yes. It is. What do you mean Halloween is on the 31st of October and that's it? Here in NYC, it's EVERY FREAKING DAY OF OCOTOBER. And I LOVE IT. Seriously, with my love of Hallmark Holidays, I should have been born Americano. I fought through my fever to attend my first Halloween party last Saturday (it was in Queens! I went to Queens!) as a questionably dressed (i.e. gold metallic leopard print leggings borrowed from my roommate, Jenny) LOLcat - see www.icanhascheezburger.com for inspiration if you're not familliar.

There is this amazing store called Ricky's that stocks basically everything you could ever, ever need for fancy dress so, leggings + black shirt + ears and a tail and I was good to go. I also made some LOLcat signs to hang around my neck. Possibly that was too much but the fever had taken hold by then.

For Halloween proper, Jenny and I are taking it up a notch. She is dressing at Red Riding Hood (if Red were a sexy latino with her boobs spilling out of a corset) and I'm going as a Fraggle. No, really. Apparently I did not get the memo about sexy Halloween costumes. I'm aiming for 'adorable' but am a bit worried I'll end up at 'idiot'.
We shall see...

You're portraying the really tacky, touristy version of New York. It's quite sad.

I've just come back from my first trip to new york and it was the best 5 days of my life. I have completely fallen in love with the city. Halloween there was really amazing, there were people dressed up from the middle of the day just walking around and everyone was so friendly. I'll have to have another trip for halloween when i'm 21 so i can have a night out. I cant wait to go back :))) xxx

I sooooo love the I Heart New York book! It's brill! I'm sooo glad Angela got with Alex in the end, even though it took them about 5 months to start talking again (which I think was way too long for them not to speak!) But, still a great book. I can't wait for I Heart Hollywood!
