New York
You know they don't have bonfire night here...
November 12th, 2009 by Angela
Can you believe it?
Well, yes, you probably can because when you think about it, Bonfire Night is incredibly British. We celebrate a man trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament by setting fire to his effigy and blowing up lots of tiny explosives while eating toffee and sausages. It's fairly English as traditions go, isn't it?

That, however, did not stop me from being heartbroken on November 5th when I discovered that a) not only does New York not have bonfire night but b) I couldn't find anyone with a backyard big enough to have one for me and c) SPARKLERS ARE ILLEGAL.
It's utter madness. I can go to WalMart and buy a gun but sparklers, ooh, no, I don't think so.

Grump. Anyway. Sigh.
It's possibly I've had a touch of homesickness recently. I think this has been mostly brought on by endless tales of Cheryl Cole's X Factor ensembles online. Although I hear the new series isn't amazing. Thoughts? Soon American Idol will be with us and all will be well.

Bonfire Night aside, New York continues to keep up its end of the bargain by being amazing. New haunts I've become obsesso-girl about:

*Five Leaves in Greenpoint, Brooklyn*
Delicious brunch/dinner/cocktails and everything. It's right off McCarren park and usually filled with beautiful unwashed hipsters. They don't smell, don't worry, they're very particular about that.

*The Bell House in Prospect Park, Brooklyn*
Really fun music venue and all round good times bar. They have a Monday Night Vinyl club where peeps can take their records and spin for half an hour or so. I'm trying to work up the courage to be brave enough. The Americanos will want to hear Shampoo, right?

OK, must dash. Jenny and I are off to meet OSCAR THE GROUCH at Barnes & Noble uptown. No, really, there's a whole talk about Seaseme Street. It's going to be amazing.
And possibly, I'm losing my mind.

Mood: Snug as a bug in a wintery rug
Currently listening to: Besides The Muppets Christmas Album? Sigh.Fine. Knight School then.
